BARN RUNNER 1

Our hero stands alone in the untamed wilds of the food court

The Armageddon Eclair
Version 2.1.1
Released December 2003

In the future, Earth has been reduced to a blasted wasteland. The few strongholds of mankind are the towering Arcologies: great, enclosed cities that house teeming masses of humanity sheltered from the ashen ruins beyond their walls.

Within the city of Evansville, mankind uses robots to perform almost all their work so that the people can enjoy an eternal weekend where Monday never comes and no one has to work. Well, no one except the robots and those very unfortunate people too poor to afford a robot of their own.

Everyone lives idyllic lives of leisure in this wonderful city of the future where robots don't count and poor people don't count much. Only occasionally is the tranquility broken with moments of phenomenal violence when a robot irrationally decides to throw off it's shackles and, without reason, turn it's powerful metal claws on man. (Actually, most of the time the robot just runs away without hurting anyone, but to let that get out would be bad PR.)

Special officers of the police department are tasked with pursuing the most violent renegades of the mechanical masses: They are the men and women of the Robot Crimes Division. Between regular breaks at the donut shops and their twice-daily scheduled naps, these officers pursue these rebel robots unceasingly until they are brought to justice. Or until the robot just manages to get away. Or unless the robot is someplace that would just be too much trouble to get to. Like up several flights of stairs. Or hiding in a building that isn't conveniently located near a Burger Thing joint.

Detective Prick Peckard leads the Robot Crimes Division. He alone is authorized to pursue the robots into the BGCZ, a wilderness wasteland of green leftover from before the withering days of The Big Oops. As the mechanicals make their suicidal escape into a zone where electronics are all but unknown, Prick follows to ensure that, even in such an inhospitable garden of Eden, he always gets the job done. Unless he's not on the job, of course. Or if he can get someone else to do it for him.

The first game in the Barn Runner series, The Armageddon Eclair is a point-and-click adventure game in a tradition that harkens back to the early days of gaming.

Using a sci-fi background for its humorous story, The Armageddon Eclair requires you to navigate Prick Peckard through the world of the future as he chases suspects, questions witnesses, collects clues, shoots it out with robots trying to hinder him and ultimately attempts to solve a 'Murder-By-Robot' homicide to track the offending ChefBot down and scrap him.

The Armageddon Eclair comes in two chapters, bundled together in the download.
