Easter Egg Listing for Barn Runner: The Mayor's New Dress (C) Tacky World Interactive Games, 2012 by Scott LeGere _________________ The icing on the delicious cake of Adventure Gaming is the unexpected discovery. This document points out most of the hidden jokes and tidbits of gaming you might have missed if you didn't play the game with an especially curious mind. DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU ARE THE SORT WHO ENJOYS SURPRISES! _________________ * (Barn) Runner up! --------------- This is the first Barn Runner game made for the MAGS (Monthly Adventure Game Studio) contest. Each month a theme is announced and the people who enter the contest have thirty days to make a game around that theme. For July 2012, the theme was "Fairy Tale" and the particular fairy tale I chose was "The Emperor's New Clothes." Sadly, I didn't win the gold medal and had to settle for silver. :P * Version Check --------------- There are a few minor differences between the original MAGS version of this game and the later version announced on the Barn Runner website. Mostly I just tweaked a few spelling errors and made a couple of corrections in the art. These eggs can be found in either version, so don't worry. You won't miss out on anything too important if you don't upgrade to the latest version. * Number One Fan! --------------- To unlock the ADULT MODE, on the menu screen click the "Rated T" icon to switch it to "Rated M". Next type in the word spanos. This is a reference to James Spanos, longtime fan of the Barn Runner series and also the man who did the music for this game. This allows you to start the game with ten bonus points, which makes it possible to unlock the sexy super secret ending and also shows a lot more of Mayor DuChamp in her special dress. NOTE: Adult Mode unlocks nudity and the secret ending is a little kinky. * Retconned! --------------- This game was released after chapter three of The Forever Friday, but takes place between The Ejection Rejection and Don't Jerk The Trigger of Love. * So posh! --------------- Marguerite DuChamp was born and raised in Arcology 6 (Gillingham). Although you can't tell from reading the dialog, she speaks with a English accent. As a bit of foreshadowing, if you unlock the ending with Noriko, it is revealed that French is her native language (something not confirmed officially until The Forever Friday chapter three). * Mayor's Mark --------------- Apparently, Mayor DuChamp has her own brand of liquor. The motto on the label of the bottle reads "I regret nothing and neither should you!" There's no such thing as 'semi-straight' bourbon, but it reflects Marguerite's somewhat flexible preference when it comes to choosing boyfriends (or girlfriends). * Fine Dining --------------- El Refugio Del Rico, the restaurant that served as the setting for the AGS Bake Sale game "The Rich Dame Who Cut The Cheese" can be seen in the skyline in the upper left of the screen near the Mayor's Penthouse. * Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum --------------- One of the bottles of booze stashed under the Mayor's desk is a bottle of Oceanspirit Dennis brand rum. Dennis is the star of an open source game series popular at the AGS forums. I've contributed several games to that series myself. Also featured is a bottle of Atelier's Workshoppe cognac. Atelier was the host of MAGS (Monthly AGS) contest at the time I made this game for the July 2012 MAGS. * Language Lessons --------------- The brass plaque over Marguerite's desk is latin. "Solus insanus democratiam suffragatoribus committit" translates to "Only a fool entrusts democracy to the voters". Thanks to Tramponline for the translation. * The world of art --------------- The painting of the little blue bird riding out rough waves in a small boat that appears on the wall across from the DoorBot was provided by gaming wunderkind Ben304. The Doorbot is the required C-3PO cameo found in all Barn Runner games. This particular version is based on the Threepio design from the old Nelvana "Droids" cartoon from the 80s. * Fancy Dress Party --------------- I designed the dress uniform for the police officers way back when I began the series. But this game marks the first time that any officer has been seen in one. It was a lot of fun to draw Holly all dolled up for a change. * Tattoo --------------- Marguerite's "I Love Arc 19" tattoo disappears when she is seen at the pool. The tattoo was a fake, meant to win the sympathy of the Advisory Council. * Fancy Bust --------------- The hood ornament on the mayor's limo is a golden bust of the mayor herself. * Love hurts --------------- If you unlock Adult Mode and follow the walkthrough to get the best ending, you can learn that Holly dumped Marguerite for Noriko just a few weeks ago (seen if you unlock the perfect ending for The Ejection Rejection) and that Holly also harbors secret desires for both Prick Peckard and Debbie Sauer.
