Easter Egg Listing (most of them, anyway) for Barn Runner Halloween 1: Fully Automatic Mojo (C) Tacky World Interactive Games, 2010 by Scott LeGere _________________ ================= EASTER EGGS & TRIVIA ================= * CHUDs --------------- The monsters in this game were shamelessly stolen from the 1984 movie C.H.U.D. I loved this movie as a kid (mostly for the monster design). * It'sa me! Mario! --------------- This is the first game to have a Mario-style platform arcade. I had to write the code for it specifically for this game. Needless to say, since I had never written anything like it in AGS before, it was a huge pain in the ass and the game almost didn't happen. But now that I've done it, I'm rather proud of it. I may even include another platform sequence in a future Barn Runner game. If you guys liked, let me know! * I'm giving 'er all she's got, Captain! --------------- The scene at the end where Debbie is chased by the horde of CHUDs is pushing this version of Adventure Game Studio to its absolute limit. I couldn't add one more monster or one more spray of steam without crashing the game. It was also a big pain in the butt to do, but I'm very proud of it. * Aunt Debbie --------------- At one point, Debbie mentions her sister. Rachel was originally supposed to have appeared in the story by now (along with her adorable daughter, Debbie's niece). But some of the side games I've wanted to do just don't happen because I run out of time. Sorry, Rachel. I promise I'll get to you one of these days. * Thank the Maker! --------------- C-3PO makes his required cameo but he's an Easter egg. I won't tell you how to find him, but let's just say that it's a very difficult and I only did it once just to check if it was possible. I wouldn't recommend trying to find him. Just trust me, he's in the game and let's leave it at that. * Fully Automatic --------------- This game marks the first (and probably only appearance) of the Falx stun rifle as a usable weapon. I've had the Falx laying around in my scraps of code for a long time, but always thought it was too unbalancing to include the average Barn Runner game. But thanks to the stun-resistant nature of the CHUDs, I finally found a reason to use it! * Foreshadowing, baby! --------------- Since this game takes place a few months before Barn Runner Xmas 2: Wreck The Halls (which takes place a few months before Barn Runner 5: The Forever Friday), the cult brochure Debbie finds in her car shows that the Church of the Second Minute has been handing out those damn things for quite a while. * Oh, Christmas tree --------------- When you dig through the wreckage of Debbie's car, you can find a little, lost Christmas tree light. This is a reference to Barn Runner Xmas 0: Christmas Soup, wherein Noriko can find a similar light in her couch. I got so many e-mails about that silly light by players trying to figure out what it was for. I just threw it in there as the sort of thing you might find in your couch, but people just insisted there MUST be a use for it, possibly to unlock some sort of Easter egg. It wasn't then, and it isn't now. But maybe I'll make it a running gag in future games. Little Christmas tree lights turning up randomly in strange locations? What do you think? * Behind the seat --------------- Debbie will find a different item behind the seat based on the difficulty level you selected. None of them serve any egg-related purpose, I just wanted to do something like that. * Nightmare --------------- If you play the game on Halloween (October 31 for those of you that don't own a calendar), a fourth difficulty level is unlocked. Good luck if you select it! * Rapid-fire Canon --------------- Yes, every ending of this game is canon. If you pay close attention, they all take place at different times following the end of the last level. So by unlocking all of the endings (one for each difficulty level), you can piece together the full aftermath of the event.
