Easter Egg Listing (most of them, anyway) for Barn Runner: The Ejection Rejection (C) Tacky World Interactive Games, 2007 by Scott LeGere _________________ The icing on the delicious cake of Adventure Gaming is the unexpected discovery. This document points out most of the hidden jokes and tidbits of gaming you might have missed if you didn't play the game with an especially curious mind. DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU ARE THE SORT WHO ENJOYS SURPRISES! _________________ ================= EASTER EGGS ================= * CHEAT CODES AHOY! ------------------- From the Menu Screen, click the small round spindle in front of the turbine blades on the hood of the car. This will unlock the Developer Tool Screen From There, you can either hit ENTER to ignore these tools, or hit the SPACEBAR to start the game with these cheats enabled. NOTE: Don't get carried away with these cheats, if you roll the health or fuel bars over too many times, the game may crash. Once these cheats are enabled, press the following keys to cheat: BACKSPACE: This skips the current arcade mission. (This may cause errors with the movies, forcing you to press the SPACEBAR to skip them if they lock up. ENTER: Add to the fuel and health values. (Don't get carried away with this one!) PAGE UP: In-Game Save (in the file "DevSave.sav") PAGE DOWN: In-Game Load (from the file "DevSave.Sav" Must have saved the game in that slot already!) NOTE: Previously saved games will NOT have the cheats active. You must start a new game to benefit from them. * SECRET LEVEL -------------- During Level Four, near the end of Cyclone Alley, there is a green container (like so many others in the Alley, dropped from a passing CargoDyne), surrounded by scattered ammo powerups and the Mangonel Cannon. This area seems like a dead-end, but across the lava-filled drop off, the canyon wall to the upper right of the area shows a rather large crack. Pick up the Mangonel (and all the ammo you can), and shoot the crack. This opens a tunnel just large enough to squeeze the car into. Following a cutscene, you'll enter the secret level "Green Zone." The Duck Hunters are impossible to hit in their half-submerged blinds, so just avoid their fire as best you can. TIP: The hunters tend to lead their targets a bit too much, aiming for a point just ahead of your left front headlight. Keep that in mind when trying to avoid their machine gun fire. Once you're past the Duck Blinds, you'll have to thread you way past the Gun Towers that line the perimeter of the Blue Grass Containment Zone. Their shots are very powerful and you're only hope is to avoid them as the Towers are impervious to your weapons. TIP: As soon as you see the fence line marking the end of the BGCZ, move to the left of the screen. There is a Fuel Pod powerup near a Gun Tower. You'll need to pick this up right away, as your fuel is almost exhausted. TIP: Your Mangonel Cannon can destroy the power bunkers, which will cause a cease- fire of whatever Gun Tower it feeds. However, there are so many of them firing in such a confined space, you may be better off just avoiding the fire rather than trying to fight back. * SECRET ENDING --------------- While in the Secret Level, as you fly over the last of the Duck Blinds, you'll see a small shack on the right side of the screen. Hit it with a single Mangonel round and this will unlock an additional short movie following the credits. * LOVE IN AN ELEVATOR --------------------- Sure, the Chief makes her feelings for Dr. Noriko clear. But how does Dr. Noriko feel about it? The outcome of that scene depends on how many "Secret Points" you have collected during the course of the game. Get a perfect 7 points and you'll even unlock an entirely new movie! HOW TO COLLECT SECRET POINTS: +1 for Passing both parts of your flight evaluation. +1 for Hitting All 20 Target Drones. +1 for Finding the Secret Level. +1 for Shooting the Shack in the Secret Level. +3 for ? ? ? (Well, I can't give away EVERY secret, now can I?) HOW TO LOSE SECRET POINTS: -1 for Hitting more than for 5 Laser Gates in the Timed Trial. -1 for Activating the Gamma-class WarDyne's aggression mode. -1 for Destroying the Kilo-class Target Drone Carrier. NOTE: You can't unlock the "Super Perfect Ending" if you enabled the Cheat Tools! ================= TRIVIA ================= * This marks the beginning of a rather long love affair between the Chief and Dr. Noriko. Prick is completely oblivious to this, of course. * First appearance of the Chief outside of her office (something I wish I could do more of, honestly). * First use of the Title card. However, in all subsequent games, it is moved from the pre-menu slot here to the first frame of the opening movie. * "Fats" DeSalvo the Hangar Boss spoken of in the opening movie was originally slated to appear in the opening movie of Armageddon Eclair 2, but he was cut to shorten a cutscene that was running too long. Sadly, now no one will ever see him. (Prick was going to bribe him with the spare Cheese-On-A-Stick he had left over from the previous chapter). * The super dark Joo Janta sunglasses are clearly a homage to "The Hitch hiker's Guide to the Galaxy."
